Festival Season Brings A New App for Keeping Track of Submissions

By James DeRuvo (doddleNEWS)

Now that festival season is in full swing, how does a young indie filmmaker stay in the know of all the great competitions to possibly get their film into? Turns out there’s an app for that. Of course there is.

IFilmfest was designed to make filmmaker’s life easier. The app is an extremely user-friendly tool, featuring a simple and intuitive way to search for international film festivals around the world with a unique and original design. With iFilmfest, users can plan the best festival path for their films through the world’s most influential film festivals. – Rodrigo Rubano, Movidromo

The big challenge of getting your film into a festival is to know all the deadlines for submissions, where to send your tape, what formats they require, etc.  iFilmfest is the app that provides all that information.  iFilmfest can help filmmakers find 300 of the most cutting edge and influential festivals all over the world, you can filter your serach, and even set reminders of due dates.

Other features include:

  • Find festival deadlines instantly
  • Search a directory of the 300 most influential film festivals
  • Filter your festival search by tags, genres, categories, and submission deadlines
  • Detailed profiles for each listed festival
  • Setup deadline reminders and add festivals dates and info directly into your calendar
  • Create your own festival circuit and export it as a PDF, RTF, or TXT file

“Above all, we are filmmakers. We are filmmakers who believe filmmaking is a way of life rather than just to belonging to an industry,” said Rubano in an interview with Digital Journal. “With that as our base, our projects are mainly focused on making the filmmaker’s life a bit easier covering the basics.”

Developed by Movidromo, iFilmfest lets you plan your best path to film festival glory, explore the ins and outs of each individual festival, it’s relative niche, history, and other details.  You can also register your film with the app, so you can find out the nearest window for submitting your films to up and coming festivals.  Or you can search by due date, country, monthly, genre, category and more.  You can then export the data to PDF, TXT or RTF and create your own timeline and itinerary for getting your film submitted, and place a reminder in your phone’s calendar for when to get your film submitted.

iFilmfest requires iOS devices with iOS 5.0 or later.  There is plans for an Android version, but for now, iPhone 3GS and above, and the iPad.  Cost is $3.99, which isn’t bad considering all the work Movidromo has done to get the data you need in a concise and easy to use app.  And it’s an international app which is available in English and Spanish.
