Ash Vs. Evil Dead Season 3 Gets Premiere Date

ash-vs-evil-dead-season-3 By Heath McKnight (doddleNEWS) Earlier this year, Ash Vs. Evil Dead season 3 began filming, and many of us assumed it would debut this fall (October specifically), following the first two seasons’ premiere. But there was ‘radio silence’ from Starz, and we were worried about a 2017 release. Well, we finally have a date: February 25 on Starz! Here’s a tweet from the official Ash Vs. Evil Dead Twitter page:

The premium cable channel also had a special Facebook live Q&A with Bruce Campbell, Dana DeLorenzo, Ray Santiago, and Arielle Carver-O’Neill (who is new to the cast, playing Brandy). You can watch the video here. They talk a lot about memorable moments from the show so far.

There’s also a new poster that debuted:

The third season is being steered by new showrunner Mark Verheiden (Daredevil), after the producer of seasons 1 and 2 Craig DiGregorio left, due to clashes over the show’s direction (horror vs. comedy) with producer Robert Tapert; you can read about that here. It goes a long way towards explaining why parts of Ash Vs. Evil Dead season 2 felt uneven to me after such a great first season. Starz also released an official plot summary for the new season of Ash Vs. Evil Dead season 3:

The third season finds Ash’s status in Elk Grove, Michigan has changed from murderous urban legend to humanity-saving hometown hero. When Kelly witnesses a televised massacre with Ruby’s fingerprints all over it, she returns with a new friend to warn Ash and Pablo that evil isn’t done with them yet. Blood is thicker than water in the battle of good vs Evil Dead!

In addition, here’s what Groovy Bruce had to say about his beloved character (to EW):

“I can’t say much because we’re going to try and do some crazy shit. But we’re probably going to crack more into Ash’s big picture story. He is foretold in an ancient book. He’s not just some guy in a crappy trailer home. There is a myth to Ash, there is a story, and so we want to explore a little more of that Joseph Campbell, big picture story. Why him? Why that guy? Why is he chosen to save the world?”

Despite what I felt was an uneven second season, overall, Ash Vs. Evil Dead has been terrific, deftly blending horror and comedy and reminding me why I loved the movie series so much as a kid in the early 90s.

however, even though the third season of Ash Vs. Evil Dead is in the can, there’s no way to guarantee it will get its fourth or even fifth planned seasons. In a recent interview with The Oregonian, Campbell said this:

“Our bosses have new bosses now,” he says referring to the Lionsgate entertainment company’s acquisition of the Starz cable network. “Ash vs. Evil Dead” has done very well in DVD sales, and is distributed overseas, Campbell says. “We’re also one of the most illegally downloaded shows. What does that say about our fans? They’re a bunch of jerks — ‘We want it, we like it, we just don’t want to pay for it.'”

Campbell also noted that they “made sure our storyline was wrapped up in a good way” in the event Ash Vs. Evil Dead is canceled after season 3. SUBSCRIBE TO STARZ!!

I suspect a trailer will debut very soon for Ash Vs. Evil Dead season 3, with the cast and crew heading to New York Comic Con, so stand by for that!
