New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer!

With just over two months until its debut, Lucasfilm and Disney are ramping up the promotion of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and have debuted a new trailer! Let’s check it out!

With trailers these days, they can sometimes reveal major spoilers, or highlight less important things to hide the plot. In the case of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, I think Lucasfilm is carefully revealing certain parts of the story, but keeping major plot points hidden, despite director Rian Johnson clarifying on Twitter, “IF you want to come in totally 100% clean, avoid the trailer.”

There is a certain dichotomy in some scenes, with Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) — who we finally get a REAL glimpse of — commenting on the power of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and a jaded Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) telling Rey (Daisy Ridley), “I’ve seen this raw strength once before. It didn’t scare me then. It does now.” Obviously he’s referring to Ben Solo / Kylo Ren, and we once again see Luke and R2-D2 in smoking ruins first seen in the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, which many speculate could be the Jedi Temple destroyed by Kylo Ren.

Lots of questions which obviously won’t be answered until Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens: Does Kylo Ren destroy a ship with his mother, General Leia onboard? Does Luke help Rey harness her powerful Force strength? Does Rey turn to Kylo Ren? Does Snoke turn Rey to the Dark Side? Does Luke go to the Dark Side?! (I hope not.)

We also see Finn (John Boyega) fighting with Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) with what appears to be the weapon the Executioner Stormtrooper used in Ep. VII; Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) giving a speech about how the Resistance will defeat the evil First Order; Chewie piloting the Millenium Falcon with a cuddly Porg (why does Star Wars always introduce a cuddly character that will inevitably split fans, a la, the Ewoks and Jar-Jar Binks?); and much more.

Overall, an effective new trailer with throwbacks to the Holy Trilogy, such as new AT-ATs and more. In addition to the new trailer, Lucasfilm released a beautiful new poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi:

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15, 2017, and is written and directed by Rian Johnson. It stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro.
