I really loved what they did with Jurassic World. It surpassed my expectations when it hit the big screen and did well despite my misgivings about some of the plot points, which were leaked during principal photography.
Since the first one came out, it was revealed that Colin Trevorrow had planned out a trilogy of movies, which will continue with the next film due in theaters summer of 2018. Shooting for Jurassic World 2 was hinted to begin shortly, with producer Frank Marshall confirming his production office in London is up and running with the following tweet:

Director J.A. Bayona recently tweeted out this image as production was about to commence:
Both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are returning as co-leads Owen and Claire, but they’re being joined by a new set of actors who may or may not make it out alive. Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs, Heat) have all jumped on board Jurassic World 2 in unspecified roles.
What the film will be about is another matter altogether. We know the returning characters have been permanently affected and changed by the events in Jurassic World, but Howard believes audiences will be surprised by the next film. Here’s what she told JoBlo recently:
“She definitely went through a lot and is permanently changed because of that. But she is also who she is. Chris [Pratt] and I are already having a lot of fun with that. We’re in that stage right now of figuring out the backstory and talking through all those beats, like everything that happened in between. That’s always such a fun time. You’re like, ‘No, she did that?! No way, he couldn’t have!’ It’s really, really fun, and then you step into the present moment and it becomes alive.
“I think what is tricky about doing the fifth movie of a franchise is how will you bring in new stuff and still pay tribute to what we all know and the legacy of the film. So, it’s the balance between the new stuff and the old stuff. I think Colin [Trevorrow] did a great job in the first one finding the balance between what people are expecting and what people are being again. I was kind of surprised when he pitched me the story because it leads the story to a place that we’ve never seen before and it brings some of the most important elements from the other films and makes something with them. I thought that was very interesting. It’s the second chapter of a trilogy so it gets the story to a place that wants you leaving more and more.”
Finally, Jurassic Outpost reported that Universal has also bought two new domain names: AllCreaturesHaveRights.com (also the .org) and IslaNublarRescueMission.com. We know that the plot of the next movie involves dinosaur cloning going open source and animal rights issues. These two domains seem to point to the latter, and it’s suspected that IslaNublarRescueMission.com refers to rescuing the dinosaurs.
Jurassic World 2 will premiere in theaters on June 22, 2018.
