Rokinon Optics launched their XEEN series of lenses last year, and they are full of great features. The lenses are available in variety of mount options (PL, EF, F, E, M43), feature 11 blade irises, and a 200° focus rotation.

Just last October, they added a 16mm Cinema Prime lens, and have just announced a new XEEN 20mm T1.9 lens. This brings the number of lenses to eight, which include a 14mm, 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and a 135mm, along with the new 20mm prime.

These lenses were designed with ultra-high definition video in mind for 4K video and above. You can not only use the XEENs with full frame cameras, plus Super 35, APS-C, APS-H and APS-P cameras, as well. The previously mentioned mount option makes this series very adaptable and robust.

Here’s a list of the features all of the lenses include:

  1. 114mm Front Diameter
  2. Aluminum Housing
  3. Consistent Focus/Aperture ring placement
  4. Internal Focus (non-rotating front element)
  5. Covers Full Frame 35mm/8K VistaVision (RED)
  6. Mounts: PL, Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, Micro 4/3
  7. Available in Metric or Imperial Measurement
  8. 200° focus rotation
  9. 11 Blade Iris
  10. 3-year limited warranty (voided if self-service lens mount change)

All eight lenses feature the same front element size of 114mm. This allows you to swap the same filter sizes while the focus/aperture ring placement makes using them uniform and standardized. The all come in at about $2,500 per lens, making them pretty affordable for people who want to expand their prime set.

Where the 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm all open to a consistent T1.5 the new 20mm has a maximum T-stop of T1.9. Additionally the 135mm opens to a T2.2 aperture while the 14mm and 16mm opens to a T3.1 and T2.6, respectively.

The Rokinon XEEN 20mm T1.9 Cinema Prime is available for pre-order from B&H (PL Mount, Canon, Nikon, Sony E or MFT) or Duclos. The lens will ship sometime in March, and retail for $2495. B&H also offers a Xeen bundle (which doesn’t yet include the 20mm) for PL mount, Sony E, Canon EF, Nikon F or MFT.
