Loads of news is coming out of the Thor: Ragnarok camp! Details of the Chris Hemsworth starring film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are starting to come out, so lets jump right into it.
First up, it has been hinted at for a while but Disney has finally confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange in Ragnarok. The official Disney fan club D23 has revealed that both characters will be crossing paths in a preview of the 2017 movie slate. Here’s what the website wrote about the upcoming film (via Cinema Blend):
If you need even more intergalactic, world-saving action, Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new.
This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, since we know that Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi directed the mid-credit scene in Doctor Strange that showed the Sorcerer Supreme in a meeting with Thor. We don’t know how large of a role Cumberbatch will have in the film but I suspect it will be confined to a few scenes set in New York.
As for the other Avenger brought up in that preview, The Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo, Disney has finally revealed an official Thor: Ragnarok synopsis. This now confirms several rumors about the upcoming film’s storyline.
“In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!
“Thor: Ragnarok” is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
“Kevin Feige is producing with Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. The story is by Craig Kyle & Christopher Yost and Stephany Folsom, and the screenplay is by Eric Pearson. “Thor: Ragnarok” thunders into U.S. theaters on November 3, 2017.”
This confirms the Planet Hulk storyline, which was all but certain at this point. We also learn that Thor will have to do without his mighty hammer Mjolnir, which Hemsworth previously hinted at in an Instagram image. Thor barely survived fighting Hulk with Mjolnir in the first Avengers film so how he will defeat the giant green rage-monster without it?
Thor: Ragnarok will premiere in theaters on November 3, 2017.
